ProtectIR – Identification of Solid and Liquid Substances
Reliable identification right on the scene
Assessing unknown chemicals directly on site is becoming increasingly important for emergency responders. This requires a tool that is both easy to use and reliable. The robust ProtectIR can identify over 22,000 chemicals and hazardous substances in an average of under 2 minutes. This enables a reliable response to dangerous substances, such as toxic industrial chemicals, drugs, precursors and explosives, right at the heart of the action. During measurement, the user does not need to enter any data, set measurement times or select prior information. The name of the chemical is displayed on the screen and is legible even to people without a background in chemistry. No interpretation is required. This ensures that the correct measures can be taken immediately. The ProtectIR can identify pure substances and the individual components in mixtures. Additionally, simple hazard pictograms provide information about the risks posed by the substance.
Advantages of the ProtectIR

- Clear results.
- An extensive substance library containing approximately 22,000 substances (expandable).
- Compact, lightweight and ergonomic design.
- Robust and waterproof (MIL-STD-810G; IP67).
- Decontaminable.
- Maintenance-free.
- It is extremely easy to use.
- It is ready for use in less than one minute.
Areas of application
The ProtectIR is designed for use in the field. To enable emergency services to respond promptly to adulterants or complex substances, it issues warnings about substances that cannot be definitively identified or that may interfere with measurements. These include proteins (which are a potential biological threat), water (which can interfere with measurements), chemical warfare agents (CWAs) and explosives. Measurement results can be transmitted directly to other emergency services personnel or specialists via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The free TeamLeader app provides additional information on the substances detected and enables further processing of the spectra.
